Ok so ive had my florida gar for about a month now and in that whole time ive only seen him eat ONE small piece of shrimp...the guy I got him from said he fed him tilapia and market shrimp...every day i put one or the other in the tank for him and he always seems interested but never eats...Unless hes eating the leftovers when I turn the lights out?? Would he have lasted this long without eating and are there any other methods I can try to get him to eat?

I have 2 floridas and they took a little over a month. One of mine, appeared to not eat for almost 45 days. In due time, they will eventually take food. They are slow to adjust to their new surroundings. I used a BBQ skewer with tilapia on the end of it. I dangled it in front of the gar. They eventually took it.

if all your prams are in line it should start to eat...to get my fl on shrimp i just held it infront of its face with my hand...so far of the year or so of hand feedings off and on it has only missed once...

Good luck. The skewer method will work. Just keep trying.
