as the heading says, my gar has stopped eating. had her since she was about 3-4inches has always took frozen and live food, now has stopped eating anything. she hasnt fed in about 2 months!!!!! any ideas? please help :(

does the fish seem to be ok physically? like is he swimming ok and such? how big is your gar? do you have pics of him?

man...2 months it quite a while w/ no food.

my friends spotted went for 4 months w/o food (no idea why) but is still fine and dandy. i read somewhere(i think AP) that spotted gars sometimes decide to "fast", is it the same for gators?

yeh its perfectly normal. as long as the colouration looks the same ure gar will be fineeee when gars are close to death or sick they always turn very pale (ie. the black spots fade) so just watch out for those warning signs.

what are you talking about?

shoot my gar must be close to death every night!

One can always tell it is fall when the influx of gar not eating posts roll in. In many cases I do believe this to be circadian for them and quite natural. It is quite odd however for a gator to exhibit this as they are not as known for it as the various Lepisosteus are.

I really would not worry about it much unless the fish is showing clear signs of distress and weight loss.

Coloration BTW is a very bad way to judge the health of a gar as it is highly variable and can be influenced by many environmental and behavioral factors.

yeah dont worry about the color of your gar, i have one that is almost white, and it just either layed eggs or fertilized them so i dont think its close to dead
