Gar Tail?

So I purchased this guy a few weeks ago at my LFS and they had him labeled as "Marble Gar". I posted another thread and most ID'd it as a Florida. Looking at other pictures of gars, I have not seen one with a tail like mine. Check these out and see how the tail splits off at the top and comes to a point. Anyone ever seen this?

it's not something that 'heals' it is a rayless filament that young gars use to maneuver through the water without making sudden movements. all gars have this when young, it's just that LFS fish often lose them prematurely because other fish nip them off.

if cared for properly, some individuals retain these filaments until they are as large as 10"--
