Where the Wild Things are
so i woke up to my gf shaking me telling me to help her...i look around and she tells me the bircher jumped outta the tank...i could hear a thudding around under the stand but looked into the tank and saw the bircher inside...so i kept searching for what was making the sound and saw that my 10'' spotted gar had jumped out...he was covered in dust but still made it when i put him back in...i honestly didnt know that gars jumped i was wondering if anyone else has had problems with this happening

thats narly soo glad he is ok those are awesome gars!

ya i was really worried the tank for the most part is covered there is a small area where the canister goes in that has a uncovered area but i put a maxijet 1200 in the area for the current to deter him...guess he was really determined

i've never had either of mine jump, but the rule of thumb to go by is that any species has the potential to jump. it's just that some have more potential than others.

what have you had jump? im gonna start suspecting all my fish now haha

yeah gars are jumpers

how is your tank set up like does it have a hood? it probably would need one ASAP as bichirs usually jump out on accident when gulping air

One more yes they are jumpers. i have lost a gar due to it jumping out. he did make some good distance though. i finally found him under a couch about 12 feet away from the tank.
