would it be a good idea to house a short nose gar with a wolf in a 150 gal? both around the same length

I have no input on this, wait for the others.

usually when this is the case one just doesn't post...:screwy:

to the ts, no it is not a good idea. wolves are rather aggressive, im taking you are intending to mix mala, it's bad for 2 reasons, 1, the psycho profile of the shortnose gar would place it in constant danger of spooking, thanks to having an aggressive tankmate like a mala. 2, there is a good chance that the mala might decide to take a bite out of the gar(or any other fish for that matter) and these "bites" are usually fatal.

I have no clue on what's the temperament of a shortnose gar is, but I have a florida gar and longnose gar with a mala. The gar don't even bother wolf or vise versa. Mala don;t bother other similar size fish unless they are being challenge to a fight which is very slim to a gar.

I tend to think other gar are the best and ideal tankmates.. Things to avoid are Ciclids, large cats, silver fish, Plecos, synodontis cats and any generally annoying animal with a bad temper. (I.E. Australian aros, wolf fish, African lungfish Etc.)

Obviously anything either smaller or larger, whatever it is, is also iffy...It will eat them or they eat it...

if you never try you never know.;)IMO.
wolves have a bad reputation for being nasty.
ive personally only had ONE bad tempered mala out of the many ive had.
and i have kept them with gars amongst other things.
i personally treat malas like bichirs.
it always is a risk since when malas get nasty they can and will kill other fish, but if youre willing to risk it,go for it.

so far i have the wolf in alone, and he seems to be very mild...He even shares his cave with a placo lol ^_^
