Gar wont eat.

Hi all

Just a quick question. When i bought my Alligator Gar i bought 10 little harlequins as feeder fish, At the minute there is only 5 harlequins left, The Gar (Maurice, dont ask why) must of ate them during the night when there was no one down in the sitting room, But lately he wont eat the live fish but if i cut a prawn up he will eat that? Is that normal for him to refuse live fish for prawn?

Just be happy he will eat none living things. As feeding him live fish will get old soon. Try giving him a mixed diet including pellets like massivore or shrimp etc . I would limit the live foods as much as possible. I have an A. Gar and I don't feed him live food and he is growing just fine.

Not to sure of the prawn part but gars will eat alot then go into a digestion mode and not eat for a couple days. Mine does this rarely.

Keep it on live food then. It needs to have a school of appropriate-sized feeder fishes available at all times at that size.
