Bought him in March this year-measured 4" and as thich as a pencil if that. Great fish to keep-really good temperament. Now 12" long and fat.

He feeds on frozen silversides, prawn, mussels, cockles and Hikari carnivore pellets. Massive appettite. I'm relocating to the Midlands in the New Year & unfortunately I'm going to have to give him away (the tanks just a 100G). Been superb fish to keep though & I'd get one again (space permitting).

Nice Gar...wish I could house one...if they were legal here. :irked:

great looking gar you have there! it's kind of hard for sure, but given those pics, that fish looks a bit more like a spotted gar than a Florida gar (again, these fish are hard to differentiate between, especially if not seen in person). it's definitely a spotted or Florida gar, but given the snout length at this size it could be a spotted (which are a bit more infrequent in the trade in the past couple years). great pics and fish!--

I would say that is indeed a spotted.....Very nice looking one at that :D

Might be a Platyrhincus but has strong Oculatus traits.
(For those of you not aware Sol and I have made a religion out of identifying spotted and Florida gars. it is just in our blood )

Cheers Sol-I've sought your wisdom in the past when I first got it as a Juvi (bought as a 'Crocodile Gar') and you felt back then it was either a Spotted/Florida. See accompanying pics.

I really wanted to say Florida Gar. Well let's just say I am leaning toward Florida than a Spotted Gar. A very beautiful Gar though. :)
