What is smaller gars that can be gotten? I would like to get one but would want it to be a smaller type of gar.

Florida gar and spotted gar are the smallest which usually grow to 22-24'' in captivity.

florida is your best bet, you need a large tank for any gar species. this is just my opinion but you need a 200G+ wide tank with a big footprint for even a florida or spotted gar. As stated above they get 2 foot long.

you could get into the false gars, like rocket gars and such, they stay relatively small, though they don't have the typical gar look to them.

what size are you buying him at? I'm just curious, not bashing, but what size tank are you putting him in? what other ancients do you have?

if I get him he is 5 to 6" I have a silver arowana , clown knife, at the moment, tank 350 gallon

niiiice, he'll be happy in that. I want a clown knife but no where to stash one yet, my 310 gallon is taken up by all my NA native fish currently.
