I am buying a home soon and the only space big enough on a safe floor will be a garage. Does anyone have any ideas that can help a brother out? Would insulating the garage be a major project? Is this feasible to do or am I gonna have to downsize? Thanks

Insulating is not expensive. Are the walls already sheetrocked? If so then it would def be a pain in the ass. MAke sure you insulate your garage door. They offer kits at home depot. Make sure you buy the one with the foil lining this will help out.

It all depends on if you can do it yourself. What part of the country do you live in? Maybe you live close to another member and you could see theirs.

If they have drywall up you can use "blow in" insulation. You can rent the machine from home depot or lowes. its actually pretty easy

Yea the walls are drywalled already but I will look into the blow in insulation I have read about it. I think there is hope. I'll keep you all updated.. Thanks for the input

Yep! I used the machine rallysman is referring to...it uses cellulose insulation...very easy process and not that expensive either...

Insulation will pay for itself pretty quickly by helping keep your temperature stable and saving wear and tear on your heaters, definitely worth the effort. You can do thwe walls one day and using rigid insulation do the door and ceiling the next.

My fish room is in the garage, just filled joists up with rock wool and boarded over it got polystyrene on walls and insulated floor. Half way down built a door this then means I have still got ½ a garage for storage and to keep the wife happy and have nice warm fish room. Got a heater on a stat ad a mini dehumidifier in there works really well just a pain to pop out there as it is not on my house . But then again its Stottys world.

i would insulate if i was you... Alot of Garages i know of that dont have insulation get really hot and cold, like rapid shifts between tempreature. Depends on your budget i guess
