So, i'll be moving out in a little over a year and a half, and my roommates actually like my animals, which is awesome. We're basically using the attached garage as an animal room. :)
What I was going to ask is, does this idea sound ok to you guys?

It would basically consist of, a big 8 foot diameter above ground pond in the middle, and some tanks up against the wall. I was going to use the pond for my pacu, large cichlids, etc, and was wondering if it would be a decent idea to adopt a few rescue iguanas, and let them have the run of the room, if I give them a suitible basking site, and all the lighting/ etc?

And yes I am aware of the problems rescue igs come with.

as long as you can keep them warm why not and ooo ya they need uv as well

Sweet.
My first idea was a salvator water monitor, but he'd eat my fish. ;)

also make sure they can't get into the other tanks or knock over lights and such.

you'll probably have to heat the entire garage.

Yeah, i was going to have the cords out of reach, and have the tanks on tall, slick (aka iguanaproof) stands.
I was going to hat the entire garage anyways. :]
I know mixing herps is generally a bad idea, but would it be a problem if I kept my slider in the pond as well? (the fish won't let her attack them lol)

Now that i think about it, this might be a pretty awesome project. Picture it, a pool full of tropical fish, some big iguanas, and maybe a few veiled chameleons (on branches mounted well out of the range of the igs (correct me if i'm wrong, but wouldn't the room be fine for them with the humidity for the pond, and uvb + heating?

The best rescued igs you can get its long term spayed females all the good atitude of female igs without the hassles of egglaying. Also they are more likely to get with each other but its not certain:grinno: In general unless you are able to divide the room its better to have only one. Igs are higly territorial, they can stress each other without even coming into contact and can literaly figth to the dead for their domains. Mine would tear themselfes into peaces if I allowed them to:screwy:

Hmm. I was trying to go for like 3 or 4 giant lizards...If i skipped doing the pond, and went with a big tank instead, do you guys think like 3 salvator water monitors would do well?

Do you know what kind of poooooop you would have with 3 large savs.

It would also get very very expensive to heat a garage depending on were u live.....

try building a large plywood cage..

cheaper and easier to heat.

I'm in socal, so heating isn't that bad.
I'm aware of their pooping potential. ;)

Why wold you skip the pond:confused: Specialy with thouse? A heated pond would increase their life quality they love to swim:D But like any other animal there is no garantee that they will tolerate each other. And yes they will need a great deal of heating and mantenaince, cleaning lots of poo daily and not speaking of what would cost feeding 3 of thouse guys:eek: Dont rush into desicions. Also dont forget all big lizards are inteligent inquisitive creatures and they like climbing into stuff and they ter apart all that is in their way. Im not seeing good prespectives on you doing several fish tanks and at the same having a big lizard free roaming. Some kind of disaster will happen. Why dont you do the whole thing as a habitat for one of thouse lizards in wich you include a heated pond were you can have some fish(put in there only fish you are not too atached to because water monitors can and will cach some:drool:)?
