In more and more articles i see people with tank installs in their garage. I have a 1600 SF garage with no tanks. Go figure I wanna put one there now. I am located in Pennsylvania. Hot summers and cold winters. Problem is my garage is not attached to my house and has no other heat source than a woodstove, which is just used for parties or to work on the Harley's. What could i use to keep it warm enough to hold some nice MFK species of fish. Or do i just keep cold water species native to my area. Kind of seems liek a waste? any ideas?

You could insulate it a bit more on the inside, and im sure it would be possible,is it wood or brick?

Its concrete block. If it came down to insulating the whole garage, I'd probably build an indoor pond in my basement. Would be more cost effective. Id rather dump all my $$ into a larger tank/pond than in remodeling costs. But i am open for all ideas. Also my garage does function as a garage as it is clean and holds my car, truck, and Harley.

You can heat the garage maybe?

its got a woodstove that i use for parties or whatever, but a pain if i gotta keep it running all the time as for heating the garage id be better off in ym basement its already heated... do these guys have mega heaters for the water of just keep a non tropical kind of fish?

i never thought of that... i guess i could try that to see what happens to the inside air temp.

What size tank are you looking at putting in the garage? Is it possible to box out a corner and make a room just for the tank, well insulated, and heated with a portable electric heater?

If the making a room for the tank isn't a option, think about insulating all sides of the tank with really good insulation sheets (painted underneath the insulation of coarse), and leaving the front open for viewing. Just be sure to have backup aquarium heaters in case any should go down. I would run multiple heaters in unheated room tank anyhow. I'm sure when you would go out there to clean the tank and view the fish you would also run the wood burning stove. Do that and run it on the coldest days of winter and I think you would have no problems at all.

Last option would be to look into a pond heater. They can get quite expensive (seen some around $400-$500) and I'm sure they are not cheap to run. But, they may cost less in the long run than running multiple heaters at once. Just a few options I can think of off hand.
