Well Ive thought about what to do with my comet goldfish. At first I considered a modified storage container for them but I finally decided on a garage pond. I am going to use 2 by 8's and steel angle brackets. The bottom with be a piece of particle board. Ive found some pond liner for 30 bucks and I estimate the wood and hardware will cost about 30 since I have a lot of scrap. All I need is the pump and heating. The filter will be made from a 5 gallon bucket, gravel and cotton. I plan on the tank being around 90 gallons. Since my garage gets to about 30 degrees in the winter I figure Ill need a decent heat to get the water in the 70's. Will this heater work, http://www.amazon.com/Submersible-Aquarium-Heater-300W-Gallon/dp/B000YADYXG
Heres the liner, http://www.amazon.com/Sunterra-3002...5?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1286585819&sr=1-5
My gaol is to make the whole thing for under 150 bucks. I realize I may have to spend some more on pond liner. But id I go up to 50 on the pond liner I have about 150 bucks left for the pump. Are there any decent pump for under 50 bucks.

If all that is going to be in it is a comet, you shouldn't need to worry about heating it. They can take pretty cold temperatures. I had a bunch of feeder comets survive overwinter in my outdoor pond this past winter, and the water was almost completely covered in ice at one point.

Use polyester not cotton, as cotton will rot. Also don't be me. Use the kind that doesn't fall apart. I had my polyester pillow material in my filter disentegrate and start floating around the pond.

Its possible to find a good pump used. i have a pond in my garage that 250 gallons that i only spent 70 on to make. the most expensive was the linner which all in all still was not that bad

got the pond linner at lowe's. it was $45 and some change. The size is 10'x13' which can make a pond up too 6'x9', 18" deep which is approximately 500 gallons. to get the round shape i got a kiddle pool from walmart that was 6' diameter that held 250 gallons for about $10. i got a used waterfall pump and filter for 15 which is good for 500 gallons. :) sorry i dont have a link for the liner since i got it straight from a store.

sorry i spelling should be kids pool not kiddle. Not to sure how thick the pond liner is. the pool was very thin. i wanted it to be fish safe and after i did alot of reseach i found that some of the kids pool have chemical mix in with the plastic to help prevent alage. also the pool was very thin and i was worried that my catfish would poke a hole in it. adding the fish liner was just to be safe. the liner fish safe so imo it was the best route to go.

np, i dont mind. I found the pump on craigs list
