I have a tank that sits in a insulated garage, it's fine in the winter but gets hot in the summer. I've read on a different forum that cichlids will be fine at temps as high as 85 degrees as long as it is not year round. I wanted to get your guys opinion, that tank rarely gets that hot, mostly 83-84. I have a jag,Oscar, Texas, and some silver dollars. Will they be able to handle that heat for 3 months, if not, let me know suggestions on how to keep the tempature down, thanks guys!

should be ok, just be watchful of pathogens. Some types become much worse at higher temperatures and higher temps mean higher metabolism so parasites and bacteria kill much quicker

that's a good point, colder water retains oxygen much better than warmer water. Forgot about that.....sounds like airstones or sponge filters will be useful in this instance

You could bury a 55 plastic drum outside your garage, in your yard. Typically the ground temperature will be 65 degrees. Then pump water through it.
Perhaps a longer buried pipe loop if you tank is huge.
I have a 55 gallon drum in my unheated basement. It will cool 100 gallons by 3 degrees.
