So I want to grow out some fry and have a perfect spot in my room for a garbage can(takes up space vertically rather than horizontally like tanks). Only problem is...it's going to be a pain to vac the bottom. Especially since I plan on tossing in a ton of gravel as the only other filtration I will have is a sponge filter. Any ideas on how I can clean it? Thanks :)

good idea, ive been thinking of doing that for awile, I would stick in a new pool filter along with your sponge filter, pool filters are cheap and they work well (for me anyways)

^^ What type of pool filter are you suggesting?

I would suspect a large plastic storage tote would be more practical than a garbage can. You can get them in a variety of sizes...

I highly suggest not using gravel as a bare bottom tank is much easier to keep clean. You will find that many breeders use bare bottomed tanks with spogne filters for fry tanks. Just vac up any uneaten food (inevitable when raising fry) as often as possible (ideally each day) and rinse/clean the filter weekly. I've raised thousands of fry using this method with great success...

Most swimming pool filters/pumps use a "Straight Drive" pump as opposed to a "Magnetic Driven" pump... Straight Drive Pumps do not stand up to back pressure / resistance very well...

I didn't see flow rates listed on that link but being rated for a 6' to 13' pool I'd suspect that's a lot of flow for 20 or so gallons int eh bottom of a garbage can or tote...

Any filter used on a fry tank will require a prefilter to prevent the fry from getting pulled into the filter.

I'm not saying the filter linked is a bad choice, just offering some points to consider whether or not it is a good choice for one's specific application. I can certainly see some applications it would be a decent choice for...

:oh i missed the fry part, so i think u shouldn't be lazy and vacuum the bottom every day, im sure it will be worth it:D
