Are the flowers only supposed to last 24-48 hours? My gardenia is VERY fragrant and has about 20 flower buds but once they open it comes out white and the next morning its falling off the stem DEEP orange. I know your not supposed to touch the flowers I don't, but its possible my cat has been rubbing up against it. And it has a bunch of fruit flies hovering around it. Infestation. At first the flowers were lasting ~1week but it just stopped. Now 2 days if I'm lucky.

No offense and I understand it's the lounge but noone knows this stuff. There's like 10 threads about plants and hardly anyone knows anything. Like chris has said join a gardening forum for questions like this.

Believe me you will get a lot more answers.

It's likely the flies, my gardenia's flowers (red not white) would last ~ 2 weeks. Clean up all the dead flowers and any other dying/rotting organic material from around the area and the flies should leave. See if that helps. Also gardenia's go into shock and become ill very easily. Just fyi

Flowers will last longer with cooler temperatures and higher humidity. Ever go to a florist? They keep their cut flowers in refridgerators.
