i've seen several time that a way to a) kill parasites and b) make the food item more enticing for your fish is to add garlic. i would like to try this as my fish have been eating poorly lately. can some one explain this process for me? gralic cloves? garlic salt?

I get a gralic spray at the lfs. WOW does the house smell like gralic bread.

just soak food in garlic water or there's a product call garlic guard as well

what you want is the oil so if you can find that, go for it. Keep in mind its very concentrated. Elosyn is what is contained in garlic which is beneficial for fish. Its concentrations are highest in fresh then jarred. Most people opt for an extract over fresh because of the amount o fwork and cloves required to get a negligable amount of oil. The jarred garlic is nice to use because you can squish the clove bits and get the oil much easier.

If fish are fed a 3% garlic diet for a period of 3 weeks it can change the pH and chemistry of their intestines which make them inhospitable for most parasites.
Garlic also acts as a natural appetite stimulant as well. I feed all my fish a diet with garlic.

here are the issues of magazines where more information can be found:
Aquarium Fish Magazine - January 1996 pg. 78 "Garlic & Your Aquarium"

Tropical Fish Hobbyist - June 1997 pg. 58 "Iso-Med for Wild-Caught Discus"

Tropical Fish Hobbyist - August 2001 pg. 112 "Flashing and Flukes"

Hope this helps and that you can find issues of these magazines.
