Has anyone here used garnet sand in their tanks? I've always used regular tan play sand, or occasionally the stuff like "sunset gold" aquarium sand. Looks ok, but I'm always wanting to see more of a dark brown, natural looking sand. Under aquarium light, the tan stuff looks so light... I tried the Color Quartz sand in brown but it was way too uniform in color to look natural. I've seen a few pictures of the garnet sand which look pretty good, but it's hard to tell from photos on a computer monitor. Also, I'd worry that the garnet would be too red... If anyone here has experience with it, or knows of another nice dark brown natural sand, let me know... Thanks!

Also found a product called StarBlast (by Dupont I believe). Appears to be a dark brown sand... Anyone here ever try it? It's comprised of Staurolite sands, whatever those are. Would like to pick some up but wanted to be sure it was safe first...

Yep, the stuff looks great. I ended up mixing a few different grades of the garnet with the Starblast and the results were excellent. Completely safe and looks really nice.
