is all garnet sand red? My local tractor supply has some but they have no idea what color it is lol. It’s 80/90 blend, would that work with canister filters? Or any other cool sands you know of?

Who cares what color it is if it's going in your filter?
If you plan on using it for a substrate, the pics I've seen are sharp and would be bad for barbell cats, sand sifters, and diggers.

Garnet sand is fine for cats.

But no it's not all red the smaller grains are pinkish where the larger grains are more purpleish.

I forgot what I have in my tank.

Vancouver_98683 Vancouver_98683 what do I have ? Lol

It’s going in my tank as substrate, I meant will the 80/90 size be okay with the filters. And I would be okay with pink red or purple lol all would be nice

It's pretty heavy stuff. With any sand I would keep the intakes away from the bottom and you should ok

**** Highly recommend anything 40 grain or less. Above that the garnet sand are too small and fine. They stick on the fishes slimecoat easily and stays. Gets sucked into the filters a bit more. Plus comes up easier during gavel vacuuming.

What is the brand for the 80/90 garnet sand available at your tractor supply store?

I defer to Vancouver opinion I've never used smaller grains and shouldn't have said you'd be ok

Wasn't saying it wouldnt be ok, lol. Those are just the minuses of using smaller grains. A small hurdle if only 80/90 grain for garnet is available. Also, the color of garnet would be a lighter color tone if grain numbers are higher.
