Hey I am growing out a 2'' silver arowana and was wondering once he hits about 7-8'' if it would be ok to put him in with 2 6-8'' Florida gars. I've seen a lot of people on here have gars with aros but then agian the aros were 10x bigger than the gar. I may get a 2'' gar and see how it will work with my 2'' silver.

don't do the combo when both fish are that young. one will inevitably outgrow the other and try to eat it or die trying. it's a risky combo when they are a bit larger, but you have a better chance of them getting along. i would say not to put them together until the gar is around 10-12", and the arow maybe 12". these are just general suggestions, but i would definitely avoid the combo when they are much smaller--

i wouldn't do silver aros with gar one way or the other, silv aros just aren't on gars list of good tankmates. and imo they look bad together too. go with the normal suggested tankmates, bichirs etc.;)

For probably the tenth time. Baby arowanas should be kept solitary until the are 5 to 6". They are very fragile at this size and are unable to defend themselves.

exactly, definitely agree.

no, not going to change anything. one will grow faster than the other...they are two completely different fishes. one will very likely die or get really beaten up. again...not advised.

i think it would be fine man i have always brought up aros with gator gars and had great succes

from that small of size? i find that very hard to believe. especially given you're talking about gator gars...then again i could have no idea what i'm talking about--

They don't look good together? Sheesh, do my shoes match my man-purse? LOL you guys are funny.

In my case the gar (a florida) is around 18" and the silver arowana is nearing 12" (I got it at 8-9"). Silver tankmate warnings apply of course, but with my gar the size cutoff appears to be around 5-6" or so with anything larger being ignored. As always, it depends on the fish. I think the best gar choice for the gar/aro combo is a florida (rather than a shorty or longnose), and you're best off starting with grown specimens. It's not like cichlids where you want to grow them out together to establish a hierarchy; with the gar/aro you want to shoot for compatible size so somebody doesn't end up lunch.
