Gars

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
no gar can stay in a 55gal for life. btw which species are you looking at?

longnose gar will easily hit 16-18" in the first year, while spotted gars can get up to 15"...

well, a 55gal is a good growout tank, but you'll def need an upgrade, at least a 4x2x2 for the spotted gar, and a 6x3 for the longose.

spotted gar would be fine for a year but aligator gar I don't think so...

i wouldn't advise a 55g even for a spotted gar for a year. it can help raise up the young to a size of 6-10", but at that point the fish should have a bigger tank...the standard 55 is only 12" wide...if you could get an 18" wide tank that should be fine for a year (possibly longer) for a Florida/spotted gar.--
