I bought some extra gaskets for my 2262. How long will they keep? Should I remove them from the package and smear a thin layer of silicone grease to keep them fresh?

The lid gasket is made out of a spongy type of material (not a typical o-ring) so I think I'll leave that in the package.

I have some gaskets for my 2262 and 2260 thats been in it package for well over a year and still feels fresh so i dont think you will have to worry at all.

I have a number of Eheim model o-rings and gaskets and just leave them in the original unopened 'bags' in a storage tote out of sunlight, including the 2260/62 lid gasket. I've had them 2007 and no sign of deterioration yet.

Same storage here but I got mine in 2012. you got a few years on these but they are in the same condition as the day they came as well

Ok thanks for the replies everyone.

Another reason I asked is because bigals stocks a lot of eheim parts but apparently not alot of people are buying them because both 5l eheim mech and substrat pro plastic containers were covered in a layer of thick dust and i bought an extra media bag and that too had a layer of dust.

So who knows how long the gaskets and o-rings have been in their inventory.
