Hello to the MFK community im new to this so please cut me some slack hahah.
So i have a GATF about 4 to 4.5 in. and right now he is in a 60 gallon because when i put him in to my 100 growing tank my redtail barracuda started to pick at him. That was to be expected because he is about 6 to 6.5 in. As i was reading this one thread about "bubbles and current set up" i came across a post saying that he had a 4,000 something gph and a 3,000 something gph set up and bubbles too. So since i have a hundred gallon grow out tank and on mean redtail barracuda, if i add a 4,000 gph to the tank do you think that the barracuda will still pick on him?
I already have a 3,500 gph in my tank. I know its like the rule of nature how something big will eat anything smaller but since i might add a stronger fan/powerhead, the redtail and the gatf will be both distracted and less stress because of the strong current?
So all-in-all if i have a 3,500 and a 4,000 something gph powerhead set up will it be okay to add the gatf back into the 100?

Also another reason why i want to put the gatf in the 100 is because i dont want to stunt his growth in the 60 plus there is no current in there. So im pretty sure it will take a long time for the gatf to grow to a size where i will feel a lot more comfortable putting him back in to the 1o/

The current will help them keep swimming. That is good but they both are built too swim against strong currents. It's a little odd for the barracuda too pick on the Goliath. But that's how fish are. You know. But if you know that the barracuda. Is picking on the gatf. You should ask yourself is it worth putting them back together. I don't think I would risk harming the gatf. He will be the prize fish when he gets bigger. Predator fish are always hard too house together. I always have predator fish. Fresh and salt. I love them. I always ask my self when mixing certain fish. Is the juice worth the squeeze. Hope this helps.

Thanks man, it really does make sense, I just hope that keeping him in the 60 for a couple of months wont stunt his growth.

I'd keep them separated. In six months its very likely that the gatf will slaughter the cuda. :/

Yea just do alot of water changes every month then that gatf should catch up too size. You know I don't think I've every seen one of them cudas bigger than 8 inches. I had a yellowtail cuda. But I sold it when it was about 7 inches. I wonder if anyone has seen one at his max size in aquarium.

They grow reeeeeally slow after 8" or so. There was a website a guy who was a dedicated Ace fan set up and had some pics of redtails and yellowtails that were probably about 12" or maybe bigger. For the life of me though I can't find that site anymore. This guy's whole fishkeeping experienced centered around the Aces. He had some really nice fish, too.

I'd let him grow out some in the other tank, I don't think you'll stunt his growth if he's only in there to grow for 4-6 months or whatever it takes to get him to catch up to the barracuda.

I would definitely recommend you get him some current in the 60, you could use it in there for now and then add that to the big tank when you move him back.

Or switch the fish ... put the cuda in the 60 and the ATF in the big tank, maybe for a month or so ... even if the ATF doesnt grow much right away it will change the homefield to the ATF's side
