  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
vatf.

gatf eat, fight and poop. vatf do the same but with less fighting and more color.

pbas and atf have been a no go from my exp. are silver sharks balas? remember aft are preds and will get to 3'. plan tankmate accordingly. the best thing to do is structure a tank around them. then you will be able to see what i mean.

When i would try to add bala sharks for dithers, my gatf would eat them quite reliably. Atf are flighty fish that spook easily. Tough, scrappy fish like pbass often outcompetes and stresses the atf when young. When the atf gets bigger, they get more confident and become quite able to defend themselves, often at the fatal expense of a fish that bullied them when smaller, like a cichlid or pbass.

10 inch cichla brokopondo and 2 foot goliath tigerfish kept together for 4 months...no problem here.

Start with a bigger tigerfish, add smaller tankmates (but not small enough to be eaten) and you should be fine.

That's what I've done and no problems at all...8 inch indo pacific tarpon, asst. bichirs, 15 inch tigrinus, etc. and nothing killed.

Some of my other growouts that are going in later are 4 atlantic tarpon, 4 armatus, 9 red tail payara, 3 nile perch, b. capapretum, 2 bambusa.

But that's probably not going to happen until after the 800 gallon is set up at my next place.

If you go with what exoticfishguy said, either will work. If you do it that way, it's really about which fish you'd rather have. I'm currently growing out my GATF so I can have him in a community, too! He's actually a fairly peaceful fish as long as he doesn't think it's food. He gets a bit territorial but he's never actually hurt anyone (other than my VATF). And he's getting big enough that he could very well hurt my other fish.
