I was just wondering if a goliath african tiger fish would end up killing an armatus. For example if they are just the same size like 20 inches. Would the other way around work too? Could the armatus kill the GATF instead? I just want to be sure before putting them in same tank. Current tank size: 300 gallons ( I am upgrading as they get larger)

I haven't gotten either fish yet but am planning to soon. I just don't know what to get. Any ideas? and will they kill eachother?

General consensus seems to be they are usually ok together however there is always the chance of something going wrong. Armatus seems to hate silver fish but ATFs are hardy fish and heal quick, the real issue however is that ATF are very slender, and grow slowly compared to the fast growth rate of an Armatus. Care should be taken when comming them together as the ATF should be a bit larger or seperated if the Armatus puts on a few inches more than the ATF.

The armatus is WAY more likely to kill the ATF. The armatus will out grow the ATF significantly too. if you get an armatus and ATF at simalar sizes, the armatus will grow way faster and might eat the ATF. That's only the extreme. i would get a large ATf and a small armatus.

If you buy a 3" GATF and a 3" armatus, in a few months your 9" armatus will eat your 5" GATF. If you want this to work, you need to grow out the GATF for a year or so before hand at least and add the armatus when the GATF is significantly larger.

I suspect you could get someone with a big GATF to part with it, but you'd probably be better served to use that money to go buy a nice, new car.

I've had my GATF for a year and he's almost a foot long. I wouldn't even consider selling for anything less than $1000, I can't imagine the pride and attachment someone like exoticfishguy has to their 2' plus fish they've had for a whole bunch of years.

Realistically either fish could kill the other. But it would be more likely for the armatus to kill the atf.

If neither could eat the other size-wise, the GATF would probably have more chances. The Arm's teeth are designed for eating smaller fish whereas the ATF's are built to rip through basically anything..

I vaguely recall from a few years ago someone posting photos of their armatus and ATF living together....The tiger had a chunk of its tail missing.

So this would mean the armatus would be more aggressive and would kill the ATF? What if they were same size though? Even though the armatus is meant for eating smaller fish can it still take bite out chunks?
