I'm getting a gatf on Friday. The plan was to have a tank just for him but I got rained out today and it looks like its going to continue for a couple days. What do you guys think of putting him with my 5" motoro? The gatf is about 4". The ray tank is a 40 breeder with no other fish. From what I've read the ray is safe and the gatf is way too big for the motoro to swallow, let alone catch. The only problem I can forsee is the the much larger ray spooking the tigerfish. I will be adding dithers in the form of giant danios/tinfoils etc to whichever tank the goliath goes in. Thoughts?
Any first hand experience would be much appreciated.

Tinfoils can make or break your experience with an ATF. Goliaths are no exception, I'd add a trio. They'll teach him to eat pellets.

If the motoro has a 5" disc, he should be fine with the GATF. Just make sure your water is flawless or the GATF will spaz and likely jump. ATF do not tolerate nitrates well. This is an especially relevant concern with how small of a tank that is and how much poop rays produce.

The final thing that comes to mind is the current issue. Your GATF will be much happier with lots of current, but I suspect the ray won't appreciate it.

No guarantees.....I had a 5-6 inch female Leo cloaked over my 4" VATF. Luckily I walked in the room and seen the tail sticking out. Had to reach in and scoot the ray off of the VATF. The only damage was a few missing scales and a much smarter VATF. The motoro may not swallow but it can definitely kill and chew the head off. Especially in such a confined space.

thanks for the replies. after shadows story i probably wont do it. ill see what they look like right next to each other first, but id rather not take any chances.
