Well guys the nightmare has come as my Gator has become very aggressive towards it's other tank mates. So far it hasn't killed anyone yet but it has been taking some serious chomps out of my Pbass's and attempted to bite my Giant Gourami. For some reason it doesn't bother my Aros nor the Catfish assuming due to their size being the same or them being larger. I hate to do this but I might have to give it up as I'm not willing to risk 9 other beautiful fish over 1 fish. Though I do love the unique looks of Gars so this is a sad thing for me to do. It was fun raising it for a bit while it lasted but I guess like how others said it won't last that long. I posted it for sale in the market boards:(. Is there any other gars that reach to a good size and not as aggressive as the Gator? Say a good size that it won't get eaten by my RTC or other monster cats.

As u can see the Ocell Pbass's wounds from the Gator Gar in this picture. The carnage has just begun...

Sorry to hear that but they are very aggressive at times and they do get 10 feet or so in length and weigh 400 or more pounds so maybe you should release it into a Lake so it can reach it's eventual size.

Gator Gar Predation :headbang2

Unfortunately now it sounds like he is going to have to suffer due to your inability to do the proper research before just throwing them all in the tank together.

My advice to you... get rid of the fish that he attacks. He is the dominate predator and should not have to suffer for it. You have like 5 freggin tanks in your place man, just move the fish he doesn't get along with to another tank.
If he continues to have problems then move all the other fish as the Gator Gar should be able to have that tank all to himself.

Gee do I have to say Gator gar are not typical community fish AGAIN...

what? i have kept them with juvenile silvery cichlids for at least 5 days and all seems fine. you're definitely wrong as i have the exception to the rule--

no. no. no. no. no.

never ever ever ever ever ever ever release a fish that has been in a tank back into the wild. ever.

I hope you were joking but I doubt it.

get rid of the gator.. spatula is totally wrong
the other fish are wayy more prettier and are in a community that works
the 450g looks amazing with ur arowana and cats etc... one gator gar would be the ugliest site and you would no be doing justice to ur tank
the gar is the aggressor which means cya to him
i suggest no gars bro
why dont you think about more pbass?

haha.. I can beat you on that one easily. I've kept koi with gator gars for 2 months now and there is not even a scratch on any one of the koi. See it for yourself. Who says gator gars cannot be good community fish?
