Very much south..
yep, I saved the knife ( as some of you might remember ) but a 8'' TSN was swallowed whole.

and the monster is begging for pellets....:irked:

man part of me feels so bad for you and your luck and the other half is amused that something actually ate a TSN. Gator gar really are a monster fish. you got your moneys worth out of them.

i think the tropical gars are the same way. my 8-9 inch trop tried eating a 4-5 inch african cichlid. i didnt see it happen, but you can easily see where he was chewing on him...oh and he tried it with a big angel fish too and a 6" longnose gar. :nilly:

sounds like we both have our hands full.

sorry for your losses though.

it may be time to consider separating the alligator gar from its tankmates as this behavior is definitely not going to stop. it really isn't fair to the other fishes, and somewhat of a waste of resources as well. the gator gar has a drive to feed and grow which is larger than most other fishes out there. in the wild they need to reach a certain size range as quickly as they can...in captivity, when you bottle them up, this drive is not stalled, even if the fish is well fed (in many cases).
for the safety of your other fishes, i would separate the fish before there are more casualties, that is, unless you want to use the other tankmates as eventual feeders. trust me, this behavior is nowhere near over with that little monster--

i will separate them, definitely...

Sorry, the clown knife incident should have been a major red flag. I hope you don't have any more losses before separating them. Sorry about the TSN! That gar is a monster all right!

Hmmm.
Miguel it might be time to ditch the gator gar...

AWESOME that is so metal!!!
and at the same time its sad.
sorry bout your TSN but im excited for your gar.

I am aware of that. But I would never believe a TSN could be swallowed by a nearly sized beast such as the Gator!
