This morning I discovered my baby gator gar dead. Just the night before he was eating just fine and acting normal. Could not find any signs of a broken back no physical signs or anything. Checked my water and all parameters were good. pH was a little high at 8.2 but dont think that should have killed him as my pH hasnt fluctuated. Any ideas as to what? None of the other tank mates or 2 spotted gar in there show any signs of illness. Theres nothing to lead me to believe that theres parasites or bacterias.

a combo of live feeders and blood worms. I live feeders in the tank so that the gars can eat when they want. However neither of my other gars are sick, nor is the eel that is in the tank that was also eating the feeders.

rosy reds from a LFS. I have never had problems with this places feeders. The store is a little over priced and they people working there might not know much about a lot of species but they keep the tanks clean and breed theyre own feeders.

every where I have read says to have food available to them at all times.

Hmmm everything I have read states to feed as much and as often as they will eat until they get about 8" then only once day till like 12" then start going to once every other day.
