they are unpredictable. it's best to have a heavy cover. yes the gator is biting it and will probably kill it one day

gators are natural born killers and are better kept without tankmates. and yes provide cover for the tank.

several hours out of the water?
what did you mean? :nilly: :nilly:

I mean that he was sitting in an empty bucket underneath the tank before i found him..lol..poor guy. I thought he was dead but as i picked him up he starting flopping around. Put him back in the tank and withing a few hours he was back to normal and eating.

My bet is that gator will kill silver aro one of these days. Mine killed its silver aro mate (both were 6" to 7").

Gator will jump. Mine did it one time, but the dog started barking so the maid was alerted ... although the dog was barking for quite some time before investigation, but gator recovered no problem.

My Gator would jump all the time, and even broke thru my glass tops once. He has spent several hours out of water before, but recovered fully.

Just to share my experience, my gars are not skittish (even if i have read and heard my local fish enthusiast friends say that they can break their backs and/or bust their tanks). In fact mine is very laid back in his 2000+g tank (it does not even chase food unlike when it was in 150g tank) ...lazy fish is hooked on pellets now...oh well, easier for me i suppose

gars are generally laid back. add in boisterous tankmates however...
