Knee deep in fish
my gator gar only eats about once a month sometimes less he is about 18in long and ive had him for years he used to eat more often but not for the last year or so water temp is at 71, 7.4ph o amonia,0 nitrite, and the nitrates get to about 20 or 30 before a wc

if he is in a big enough tank, try to up the temperature a little and add some aquarium salt. Does he stay at the bottom of the tank? What color is he?

if it is a true gator it should be alot bigger then that at a few yrs, post a pic...

Warmer water = more active feeder, but 71 is warm enough that he should eat a lot more than that. It might not hurt to up the temp. I'm like the others, though...are you sure it's Atractosteus spatula?

Cheers,

Don

i got one and it grown from 3 inches to six in a month. another thing you could do is when it opens up its mouth to eat it should have two rows of teeth in the roof of its jaw.
