I am in the process of getting the materials for my above ground outdoor pond that will house my gator gar. The project will be completed this spring so that over the summer the gar can acclimatise to her new home.
I am looking at 3x2.4x1m or 3x3x1m as the sizes for the pond.
She is pushing 30+ inches now and is very comfortable in a 500g but I would like to use the tank for my Cichla.

Does anyone else on here have an Alligator gar in a pond already?
I am looking for suggestions on insulation and pond design.

I'd go bigger if you can. Build one that can hold it for the rest of it's life, and save yourself the trouble of expanding later on down the line.

What do you consider the minimum??

how old if your fish right now? 10 x 15 meters is great, but if you can only go 3 x 3 x 1m you should still be fine. a captive alligator gar initially raised in a home aquaria is not going to get larger than 3m by any means, so you will be fine with that size pond. good luck--

I should have labled mine better, I was thinking in feet.

Thanks for your input guys, I had thought it would max out at 5-6' in captivity so a pond 3m square would be fine.
My fish is about 2yrs old and feeding really well but the pond will be outside so growth will be slower than in a heated aqaurium. I will keep you posted on the progress of the build and the gars progress.
