Gators with trident?

3 of my gator gars have developed a prominent trident pattern on their heads. A couple of my other gators also seem to have a similar trident pattern but much darker. The two biggest show no hint of this though. Never have heard of this with gators, and only in reference to tropicals. The only changes for the enclosure is that I have started to drop the temperature in preparation for moving them outside. Temperature is 72F.

the trident is more or less a hobby-related diagnostic with tropicals from that particular region. some others have it, some don't. if you look closely at the skull of almost any gar, there is a trident pattern with the bony plates fuse together. sometimes there is pigmentation there, hence darkening the "trident".

so in short, it is visible as such in other gar species frequently. hope that helps!--
