I hear they are good in community tanks. My question is can they be kept with Harlequin Rasboras, lemon tetras, zebra danios, and a dwarf gourami? Also, how many are reccommended? The tank is a 75 gal.

The zebra danios might not enjoy the higher temps the rams prefer, but your other fish would handle them just fine. The rams shouldn't bother anyone, just make sure they get some food down to them ... the danios might snag most of it. Two pairs would be perfect, you might be able to do three pairs depending on how much driftwood and rock sightbreaks you have.

Don't fall into the trap of calling all Blue Rams "German Blue Rams" - they aren't.

I'm not real familiar with the Rams. I know my brother had a pair some years ago, he said they weren't too bad to deal with. I'm just thinking of doing this setup, by moving my fish out of the 55 gal into a 75gal community, and getting rid of the 55. I had always wanted Rams, just wasn't sure which type yet. GBR, Gold ram I've seen, and Bolivians.

I've got lots of rock, plants, and driftwood to transfer into the 75gal, if I do go ahead and set it up. I keep the 55gal my danios are in now at 79 to 80 degrees, and they seem fine with that.

Pretty much 90% of our blue rams in the states are of the german blue color phase from asian fish farms ... it's the name of the line bred blues, not meaning they were bred in Germany. We rarely see wild blue rams sadly. Confusing I know, but no one ever said we americans make sense 100% of the time. :grinno:

gspille - The blue ram comes from really warm water, reaching as high as 90F ... I never had luck with keeping them lower than 84F myself, even with twice weekly water changes. Danios are tough fish and might be able to handle it that high, but are generally a fast flowing, cooler water species.

Thanks for the input. Not sure I'm going to do this ebcause I recently downsized tanks, and had considered selling the 75g setup anyway. Just contemplating changing and selling the 55g instead.

I have a pair in a planted 20 and I am thinking of putting something else small in there as a top swimmer. Adding 2 otos too.
