I have Ge Dilicone II window and door. It is a white tube, with a blue and gold label. The label says 100% silicone sealant clear. The back of the label says not for aquariums. Has anyone used this or know if it is aquarium safe. This is a picture of what it looks like. I found this pic on the web.
thanks
John

Does it say mildew resistant?? if so do not use it :)

i would just go buy some aquarium sealant..wat are the ingredients on the one you have..

me and my bro used some to build one of my tanks (bottle looked different though). works great and its cheaper then regular aquarium sealent (here) just make sure its not the kind that has anti-mildew properties.

GE Silicone II is excellent for sealing aquarium windows. I use white paint able type, which has no "Bio Guard" or other mildew or mold inhibitor. The “Window and Door” variety is for exterior use as opposed to “Kitchen and Bath” which apparently has a different formulation.

GE publishes a disclaimer on their Silicone products, “not for aquarium use”, which I believe is to protect them from liability, should something fail. A few days after using the white paint able type between a bulkhead fitting and plywood I tried to separate them. The plywood delaminated and splintered but the Silicone II would not separate from the wood.

The “For Aquarium Use” product selling at Aquatic Eco Systems for $13.35 a tube has no mold inhibitor but otherwise appears to be the same product selling for $4.95 at Home Depot.

The success with these products in building and repairing aquariums depends greatly on your experience and knowledge. Just because I have had, success does not guarantee you will get the same results.

I used 16 tubes of the GE Silicone II on each of the 4' by 8' windows.
