Gecarcinus quadratus- Halloween Crab

Anyone know anything about these? My LFS is selling them in tanks as they are pure aquatic but the info I see on Google says they are land based crabs.

Do they need dry land?

I need a scavenger to clean the food scraps from the bottom of my tank.

Well I know if it's a true land crab, the adults spend a lot of time on land. But the young ones need water to keep their gills moist.

I kept my big one on cocofiber with a huge water dish. Similar to Cardisoma armatum.

As for a scavenger, get a crayfish or yabbie

I agree! Crayfish are great scavengers for most tanks that don't contain small, slow or baby fish.

Understood. Thanks guys...they are gougous, would love to keep one in my large Predator tank..Oh well. Crayfish it is!
