Yea they need a heat source so they can digest their foods along with other stuff like all reptiles. They are really easy to take care of and full of personality. There's a reason why their so popular. I have two and wouldn't trade them for the world. Leopard geckos that is. I think leopard geckos will suite you better. They will vary as far as personality. One of mine is very sweet but dosen't like to move around much. The other one is always out, a little jumpy, and very greedy. I will hear thumping noises in the middle of the night and i will find out it's my leo climbing on something in her tank and then falling off. They also like to lick my hand through the glass. They are easy to handle although I don't handle mine much and they have the most hilarious facial expressions that you just don't get from other reptiles. One of my favorite things to do is put my face against the glass and they will follow my face around their enclosure. Very cool lizards.
Google "leopard gecko care" and you will get all the information you need. Make sure you read more than one caresheet though as people might have conflicting opinions on certain parts of their husbandry. Although, it's hard to mess up a leopard gecko care sheet.
