Hey y'all. I am doing a virtual science project and one of my judges asked for the gender of my fish. I posted pictures of each of the fish in the experiment. Can you all ID their gender? Thanks.

How big is the fire mouth? If it’s young then it can be almost impossible to tell the difference between male and female because the biggest way to tell is the coloration difference between the two genders. I believe the last yellow cichlid is a male because the lack of eggspots on anal fin

Also I believe the one above the fire mouth is female because the eggspots on fin and round fins.

Lol why does everyone think he's a juvenile. He's like 5 inches. I do think that coloration will be confusing, since he's in light substrate so his color is a bit faded.

The convict is a female. Generally only they have the orange on them.
The gt is likely a male due to the patterning on the anal and dorsal fins.
Parrots are basically impossible without venting or until they breed. FINWIN FINWIN may know some tricks though.
I think the jewel is a female, as the blue line on the end of the caudal fin only goes halfway down.
With the rifties, I can’t help too much. Though I think all are male.

Egg spots are used by male mouthbrooders to attract the females to pick eggs up, and at that point the male sends milt into her mouth to aid in fertilization.
Females of rift lake cichlids are almost always bland in coloration compared to the bright colors of the males (especially when spawning).
Ctenochromis horei (a rift lake species) above, and spawning below
And I agree about the Amatitlanis, the orange in the belly indicates a female, and in the Andinoacara, the pointed tips of the unpaid fins usually indicate male.
In many cases gender difference is not apparent unless both sexes of a species are in the same tank.
An example below
above is a female Mesoheros festae without a male in the tank.
Below that same female, when the male is put back in the tank.
