Besides the growth of nuchal humps for males during spawning, is there other ways to determine sex of cichlas?

i have 3.
2 are dark colored 1 is light.
im thinking the darker ones are males and other female.
no clue if im right tho.

so TRUST when are pbas sexually mature or at what size: 6", 12" or 15+", and what do you need to have as a breeding area?
They like to spawn on flat areas. So a flat piece of driftwood or slate works nice. Mine are about 12" and have paired off and fanned a bed. They just haven't gone the extra yard yet! grrrr...!
