I recently received this Red Dragon from a reputable online cichlid dealer that will remain unknown. They have a gender guarantee saying that if the fish received isn't the proper gender they will replace it with the proper fish. It's thumbnail was titled "Male Red Dragon Flowerhorn 3.0-3.5." I received this fish last week and now that it's finally coming out some concerns have arisen. I appreciate the knowledge.

I think it's a male. You can see a little bit of the head already, but I see a little black spot at the dorsal fin, but it's either the lightning or because of your flowerhorn's color, your flowerhorn is a bit yellow and dark.

I do like the markings a lot, but what's the tank size, PH level, and water temperature?
Solo dolo in a seventy five gallon, 83 degrees with a ph of 8. This was the first day after arrival that it's free swimming, it spent its first week stressed out and refusing to use its tail fin. I'm expecting it to color up some more hopefully in the coming days.

Oh, I have mine flowerhorn in a 55 gallon, SRD, it grow a lot since then and the kok is a lot bigger and it's color is amazing. But maybe you can change the water or find a way to make it lighter and take a another picture so I can zoom in to see the dorsal fins area clearly, I kinda see a dark spot right there

I have a 3 inch female at this size before, the dark spot keep going and disappeared, but later it turns out to be a female thanks to this great forum, but I saw some males with black markings in the show case before, but it's rare for male to have black markings, 95% with black markings on dorsal fins is female. But there is more ways to identify it's gender, just search it up on YouTube.

I know there another method, but can't remember it all, learn it from some expert breeders on youtube, so go there for the full way it here is what I remember:

1- feed it foods, make sure it's full so the Anus or thing will show
2 - if there's something sticking out it's a female

Not sure if that's the correct order, but search it up on youtube

That's the growth of my flowerhorn, got it for $89 and still live in the 55 today. Still feed it good protein everyday, the 3rd picture was a month ago, haven't change much since then. And now, my family just got a female 8 months Dalmatian puppy, so I don't want the dog to go near my flowerhorn, so I pay less attention to the flowerhorn now, but it's great
