Can someone answer this for me? My beardies went from my 75 gallon growout tank (they never had the chance to outgrow it though :P) to a 300 gallon that I divided in half, because I still have work to do on the other half. Now they are not eating (today anyways) but they did yesterday. One was also twitching a bit when I got home from work, but it can't be calcium deficiency, I dose them always. They are about 13-15" long at this point, and have LOTS of room now, but does it take them a while to get used to a bigger tank? I think this is what it could be, since I have the basking/uvb bulbs that I had on the 75, which is the same depth. I can't figure it out...:(

hmmmmm twitching? any spacific body part?

how far is the uvb flouresent from the surface??

how often do you change the bulbs?

what do you feed? do you use a multi vatamin suppliment?

To answer that, it was the head??? The UVB is 18" from the bottom of tank, about 12 from the lizards. This is a new bulb, and I feed crickets and mealworms dusted with repti vites by sandfire dragon farms and a calcium suppliment.

They bob their heads when they "talk" to each other. Was it a twitch or a bob? A new tank can stress them out or they could be acting the way they would in nature. If you have a pair, sometimes all it takes is to relocate them to a bigger tank to induce breeding.

It was definately a twitching in the head. I do have a pair, and expect to breed them hopefully. Hopefully this is what it is :D. They do like the fruits and veggies (at least my female) so have been feeding them mustard greens the past few days!

why would a new tank stress them out?

if all is well with the set-up and the lizard is healthy, it should be inclined to explore the new environment with that tounge to familiarize himself with everything. The only way the lizard would be stressed is if something in the environment was incorrect, or something is wrong with the lizard itself.

take the beardie to the vet, dont take any chances.

have him get a fisical, and a stool analysis. Get his blood tested as well.

Your blulbs may be too far away from the surface, after 12 inches the amount of UVB light is greatly diminished. If the lights are shining through a screen top, that will also reduce the abount of UVB. (and glass compleatly filters it out) How much heat do you have on them? A cold lizard will often refuse to eat. Also, as beardies mature their diatery needs change. They go from needing lots of protien to needing more plant material. An adult beardie needs about 60% plants and 40% protien in their diet. I also agree with DeLgAdO that you should make a vet visit to a qualified reptile vet. A great source for more beardie info is kingsnake.com. Good luck with your herps.

yea twiching of the head is fine, i dont remember if i means they are trying to threatin someone or what but its normal, and its also normal to not eat for a day, there prolly just stressed dont worry about em, GL
