i was doing some research about powerheads when i came upon some information about the proper flow rate. the article stated that you turn over your aquarium volume four times per hour. So for example if you had a 150 gallon tank your proper flow rate for the powerhead should be 600 gph.

Is this true? Also, does anyone recommend any certain type of powerhead? I am currently debating either the Maxi-jet powerhead by Marineland or the Hydor Koralia powerhead. Thanks.

I don't think of "flow rate" with powerheads if they are being used for current. The desired current will depend on the fish you keep IMPO....

:iagree: turnover rates are for filter systems, either HOBs or W/Ds.

You are correct in your calculation tho.

Power heads are designed to move water in a tank not to lift water out of a tank (tho it has been done).

What are you trying to accomplish?

And in the future can you please reference your quote so others can read the info too.
