confused, lost, and lonely
This week I have seen two things I thought were wierd-funny, first was a guy in a pet shop who was buying a large 8'+ albino reticulated python. His arm was wrapped all the way to his shoulder in curlex gauze. It seems that last week he had a little feeding accident with an 11' carpet pyhon. He had his hand swallowed and called 911. By the time help arrived it had reached his elbow but he wouldn't let the paramedics kill it until it reached his armpit. Now he is getting a new snake, I told him he should put bunny ears on his wound dressings. The second oddness I saw was at the Petco, a flying frog, not one of those malaysian ones that are supposed to fly, but a large columbian bullfrog. A clerk stuck his hand in the tank to fish out some dead crickets and the thing bit him. He was so startled that he whipped out his hand so fast that the frog landed in the petfood section about 40' away. I did know that they even had teeth but the guy was bleeding pretty good. OOps.

awesome stuff. I never thought a snake, no matter how large. would try and swallow a portion of its owner; what in the hell was it planning to do once it reached his shoulder?... those snakes are definitely not the brightest bulbs in the box, i guess. I have to admit I'd be reluctant to kill a huge snake that had part of my arm in its mouth too; you'd think that the snake would figure out its not going to work out.

I've had 4 african mbuna cichlids (2 scolofi, 1 estherae, 1 johanni) living somewhat-peacefully together for the past year. There's only 4 mbuna in it now, because there was initially 10-11 mbuna in it-- during the first month, the two scolofis took it upon themselves to thin out all the others, and I was fishing out a new dead mbuna every week for almost two months.

So after a year of no fatalities amongst those 4 remaining guys, I figured everything must be OK now. Well, apparently the head scolofi decided the male estherae was taking up too much space, cuz I fished him out dead-and-descaled just yesterday. The estherae was about twice the mass of the scolofi, too.

Snakes are not very bright and once they start to swallow can't back up. The only way they can puke is if the prey has cleared thier teeth. Take a look at thier teeth. If you let a garter snake eat your thumb you will have to kill the snake to get it off. If you are bit by a snake that is feeding rather than acting defensively you need to immediatly shove the snake forward into the wound and spread it's jaws, then pull loose. If you just yank it loose the teeth will not only slash, they will break and you will end up with a serious infection. Been there, done that, got the scar.

First time for everything I guess, got bit by a dragonfly larvae. I saw it in the shallow grass in the Willamet river while it was eating a small sunfisf. I caught it but when I pulled the fish it whipped around and bit be on the thumb, Felt like a bee sting and my thumb got pretty puffy. Most of the swelling is gone now but my thumb still tingles like a mild electric shock. I dropped the fish so I still don't know what lives in that grass bed.

I found listing for exotic cats onlne the other day that amused me. It listed Caracals for sale at $2500 ea. It said they were easily tamed and tainable for hunting. At the bottom it said,"Not to be trusted with other pets or SMALL CHILDREN." the capitals are mine. :22_yikes: Maybe it is just me but that is comedy. :grinyes: At least they would be easy to feed, just open a day care.

a private resident had caracals for trade? Are they even legal in the US? They are a bit smaller than bobcats right?

Legal? yes. Catteries breed them here. I don't think that site was private. If I can find the site again I will give you the adress. you can also buy servals, fishing cats, and flathead cats.

Snakes can release they're prey at any given time, the best way to get a snake to let you go is put it under running water, the colder the better,or better yet rub some isopropyl alcohol on its nose.i have had my fingers and thumbs "swallowed" completely by overzealous kings.and my arm ingested halfway up to my elbow by my 6' jungle carpet and water/rubbing alcohol has worked every time.

Now I know, Liuttle laten for that one. I am sitting here awaiting arrest for slightly damaging a dog fighter, his billy did nt work against my mace, I think that he feeding kittens to pit bulls will work against his missing finger, esp. since he came in thru window. i WILL KNOW TOMORROW
