ok, so the guy i am selling my asian aro to when i leave china (same guy who owns my local LFS), is insisting that i put some of this stuff into my tank......

i obviously have not - and i looked up some info on the net, but can't really find anything about use in aquaria.....

he makes it sound like it is a must, and i keep telling him that wc's and high water quality is what a fish needs....we joke a lot together....so nothing really heated - but he is pretty insistent on me using this stuff.....

anyone know anything about gentamicin(gentamycin) sulfate injection?

and please...don't flame or worry - I HAVE NOT USED IT YET....

:)

CoolGuy,
This is going to be his fish and he`s pretty experienced if he has his own LFS and your not even sure what it is so ...... why wouldnt you?

I havent heard of it but it sounds like an antibiotic to me. Perhaps this is his quarrantine regime?

mind you, asian fish keeping has its differences.....

he jokes and tells me he won't do a waterchange for a year.....but the problem is, that is the truth.....and the filtration i am using (which he will use) is quite solid - but 1 year without a change ain't gonna be good....

main reason i will not use it now - is because nothing is wrong with the aro....why med a fish when nothing is wrong?

anyone else?

tell em you will sell him the fish healthy. and what he does to the fish after is up to him. if he decieds to med the fish on his own and it dies its his fault.

but why don't you have a real talk with him. and if you don't like his way don't sell him the fish.

its that easy isn't it?

Here's my two cents:
Wikipedia says that Gentamicin is effective against gram-negative bacteria. The problem is that your BB is also gram-negative. It'd better be an injection or you will kill your biofilter (in general, but IANA Microbiologist). Even then, you wouldn't know how much is excreted right back out through the gills or otherwise.

Does he say why he want's that one? Is there a specific bacteria he's targeting? Try suggesting a (biofilter) safer alternative like erythromycin.

Erthromycin is also good if you don't know where your lady friend has been. What?

Anyway, I don't see any reason to do that, and I would tell him that if this happens, then no guarantees.
