Hey everyone! I have a single geo and would like to get more of the same kind since I know they should be in groups. I want to confirm what he is before getting more, am I correct that he is an altifrons? When I search for altifrons for sale, I often see region specific specimens offered, do I need to be that precise? Also, he's a full grown adult, can I mix him with juveniles or do I need to grow them out first? How many should I get? 180g. Thank you!

When I kept altifrons, the entire clade was just considered /"altifrons", and separated as location variants, many of those variants have now been given species status.
Some vendors may have not kept up with the science.
I kept a group of 6 in a similar tank to yours, females were always slightly smaller than mature males, but not drastically so,
it'd be had to judge if a mature male like yours would accept much smaller juvies as tank mates, or not.
The lack of mid body spot, or alternate "on/off" spot is a sign of true G altifrons species.
When mine would spawn, the pair would go off on its own, to an isolated spot, away from the group

Below is an up to date guide to location variants , now considered separate species.

Honestly, given their large adult size and their boisterous nature, I’d probably keep him as a single if he’s doing well. Adding in others now is going to lead to a lot of chasing and quarreling. Altifrons can be very rough on each other unless given a massive tank. I had a friend who had to split up his group because they outgrew a 220g and started nearly killing each other.

If you’re interested in spawning, adding another five and letting them pair naturally would be the way to go, but again… large tank.
