The deep south
Well my basement flooded today from storms through the night and early morning so i left the lights off longer than usual and spent my day shop vaccing up all the water and cleaning up the mess. Turned my lights on to find a spawn from my geo b pair :). I removed the 3 goldfish, jag syno, and angelfish from their tank to protect the eggs/fry. I left 3 albino giant danios around 2". Do you guys think they will eat the eggs or fry or should i move them too? This pair has bred several times for the previous owner in a large community tank and protected the babies long past free swimming. When is a good time to remove the babies as these 2 are proven good parents? I also put some sponges on my filter intakes for when they do hatch so thats covered. Just need some advice on what to do next as ive never really bred cichlids before and hope to grow out as many as possible. And how long should i be waiting..super noob when it comes to this lol...

congrats and remove then also if u have sponge on intakes still it may kill fries as they are really weak to avoid it and may get stuck in those sponges and die ...

Thanks rocky, ill get the danios out now too...any other way to keep the fry off the sponges? I have two 30's with normal sponge filters for the future free swimmers. Is it best to just remove the fry the first day of free swimming or wait a couple days?

Also is it a good or bad idea to waterchange during this whole egg process?

I would take out any other fish that may eat the fry and eggs just leave the parents in with them. Get some brine egg for the fry to eat, small proportions.

Thanks again guys...the parents are solo now and heres a pic of the sponges i used from some mag pumps. The sponges are kinda big but this is what i had on hand. Parents have calmed down alot now that there alone.

It should work just fine, i would opt. for a sponge for washing cars. The pores are less course in size=less fry getting sucked into the pores of the sponge.

Ok ill try to rig something else up...i have a few fine bubble powered sponge filters extra that should do the trick. Not shure if the filters can handle that much blockage but it should work.

Update...fry on eggs after only a couple days...the parents moved all the good eggs to the back of the tank away from the white ones...there now moving all the "vibrating" babies into a small pot lol...these guys truely amaze me.
