Well, I bought these 4 brasiliensis about 2 weeks ago. After 1 week, two of the paired up and spawned. A couple days ago, the fry became free-swimming. There's probably anywhere from 100-200 little fry swimming around (they're so cute)!
The parents have been VERY good at protecting them. They have the cloud of fry right in one of the front corners of the tank, and are doing a great job keeping other fish away from them. There was some excitement yesterday, when my 8-9" BGK came over to that corner to look for some angelfish eggs (that's where they usually lay them). He swam right into the thick of the fry, and before he knew it the two parents were freaking out. There was a flurry of twisting and biting, and then the bgk made a hasty retreat, with one of the parents in hot pursuit. The best part is that I got it on video!
