So, after some searching on this forum, I've noticed that people are saying the brasiliensis are fairly aggressive fish.

I recently purchased 4 of these fish for my SA biotope tank (125g). Currently it has angelfish, bleeding heart tetra's, bolivian rams, a black ghost knife (i know, not SA, but he rocks), various dwarf pleco's, various cory's, and a large dragon goby. The geo's are currently around 3-3.5 inches in length.

How likely are they going to be to get aggressive and damage other fish in the tank? Surprisingly (i've only had them for about a week), two have already paired off, dug a pit in the sand, and spawned on an exposed rock :nilly:. Are they large/mature enough to be spawning already?? Can I expect the eggs to be viable?

If, as they grow larger, they begin to get too aggressive, I do have another 125g tank with 2 peacock bass (6" and 7" currently), an indo datnoid (4"), and a venezuelan pike (7"). Would they do alright in this tank, provided they were larger than they currently are?

So far I really like these Geo's. They seem to have a lot of personality, and while they do intimidate my bolivians a little, they aren't acting very aggressive yet.

What do you guys think? Included are some pics...

and they'll eat tho's tetra pretty quick should get more cichlids

Awesome pics and the Brasiliensis look great! I've kept them a few times over the years and they have always been pretty peaceful. This large male was about 11" when I gave him and his mate away to a friend. He would actually come up to the top aof the tank when he'd see someone approach and you could pet him! Very calm and cool fish.

Wow! That's an amazing looking fish. I hope mine grow up to look half as good as that!

My experience with them was rather bad. A 4" male killed a 6" Royal Pleco and an 8" silversaum ... so I'd call them aggressive for south americans. Not so much compared to centrals though.

They should do fine in the other 125 gallon once a bit larger.

You should get a viable spawn, there are records of viable spawns as small as 2" with this species.

I kept a breeding pair with angel fish and A. robertsoni. No issues. They can hold there own pretty well with most CA's too. The male ended up right at 12". He's about 8" in these photos.

Wow! That fish is a stunner. I thought the big one I had was nice, yours is glowing with color!!

Sounds like a cool tank. Just keep an eye on them, but I think you will be fine. The black ghost knife fish is a south american fish btw:)
