Bought these as Surinamensis but wasn't sure. They were 1" when purchased
last fall now about 4-4.5 inches.
Could use some geo experts to verify ID. I thought maybe Altifrons but
thought Altifrons lost the black spot but wasn't sure.

Thanks in advance.:)

I'm saying Altifrons, look identical to mine. The black spot is there at times and gone at other times. Normal.
Edit: let me rephrase that. In the same fish the black spot fades in and out depending on mood or whatever.

Thanks, I figured Altifrons or Abalios going by Rapps library but wasn't sure.
How do you differentiate between the two. I noticed a difference in the tail
markings: Altifrons being more rounded where Abalios being longer line like markings.
is there other differences that I am overlooking?

Altifrons: Very small (2-3 scales) or lack of lateral spot, lack of facial markings. Spotted pattern on caudal fin.

Abalios: Caudal fin with stripish pattern, lack of facial markings, prominant lateral spot that bisects the 3rd bar on th flank of the body.

First pic altifons second abalios. Hope this helps some! Btw pics are from CRC
