Geophagus Steindachneri (red humped eartheaters)
I took 2 females out my tank to strip them of their fry (14 days about for both) and took some pics for you guys/gals. Each female had about 30 - 40, and they are free swimming, but staying near the bottom in a big cluster. These are put into my 20 gallon fry tank with about 20 eartheaters that are about 3 months old (half inch) and my baby black calvus' (half inch). Hope you like 'em... pics one and two are different females. The last two pics are the 3 month old fry.

Very nice! I've been looking for some nice eartheaters but they are overpriced over here and don't seem to see much around here too.

geos have been with the fronts for 1.5 yrs (they were quite small), temp is 78-79, tank is 130 gallon. pH about 7.4. Thanks for the props!

wow. how long do they mouth brood?

I strip them after 14 days (because the fry are free swimming at this point), but they'll brood for a month, sometimes spitting the fry out to forage, but right back into mother's mouth at the first sign of danger! After a month, they're growing quick and the mother loses interest.
