I've had this little guy for a little more then 2 months. Since then he has only grown about .5-1'". He is now about 3.5 ". Has a black tip on the fin above his eyes, and usually a black spot right in the center of his body, but the spot fades when he gets scared (he's camera shy). He is so fun to watch and I was thinking of getting another, but have no idea what to look for. Any help ID-ing this guy? Thanks.

cupido

Looked at some pics and I don't think its a cupido.

Might be acarichthys heckelii though. Thanks Polo.:)

Anyone else agree with Polo? Any other suggestions?

1/2Bolivian Ram 1/2 Acarichthys heckelii... j/k. needs to age a little more.

No need to age for ID. polomax24 got it right.

The black tip to the first few rays and white line behind it is one of those A. heckelii characteristics. As is the the pattern of uneven barring.

some pics of mine for comparison:

I bought mine unlabelled, mixed in with a bunch of G. "surinamensis" at about 1.5" in body length back in February. Looked just like yours. They're 3" in body length now. Slow going but starting to grow those trailers off the dorsal.

Nice fish man!!! really...nice fish

prolly the farthest fish away from the "Surinamensis" LFS sell, theyre usually Altifrons or abalios.

Cool:cool: Thanks for all your help everyone.

Nice pics straitjacketstar That looks almost exactly like the one I have but obviously my photo skills are lacking.

Thanks again
